Hook Dental and our specialist periodontist, Amir Savage, are very pleased to offer an excellent service to patients and referring colleagues in Hampshire.
What is specialist gum care?
Specialist gum care or periodontal treatment is the branch of dentistry concerned with inflammatory diseases affecting the tissues surrounding and supporting teeth and is more commonly known as gum disease.
Some forms of gum disease are reversible but periodontal disease, which is caused by complex interaction between the bacteria and the body’s immune response that leads to destruction of the bone and tissues around the tooth is not curable. It is however possible to stabilise the disease process for a patient’s lifetime. Advanced cases require expert care and periodontists are able to offer procedures that are generally outside the scope and expertise of most dentists and hygienists.

Why choose Hook Dental for periodontal treatment?
Amir graduated from Edinburgh University in 1992 and his specialist training was undertaken at the Eastman Dental Institute in 2004 achieving the MClinDent in Periodontology and MRD from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh in 2007.
Amir was appointed as the Clinical Director of the Military School of Dental Training in 2007 and served as an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh). He now works exclusively in private practice as a specialist periodontist.
What should I expect?
Initial consultations and treatment planning cost £140 and take 45-60 minutes. During this appointment, Amir will carry out a full periodontal examination including pocket charting, plaque and bleeding indexes. X-rays may also be required.
Following this visit you, or your referred patient, will understand the nature of their problems and will be given a plan of treatment both verbally and in writing.
A typical course of non-surgical treatment will involve fees in the region of £600 - £900. This initial treatment phase usually consists of 2 or 3 1-hour appointments, which will be followed by a maintenance phase of 3 monthly hygienist appointments. Patients are then usually reviewed annually to assess their progress. At this point, further specific treatment may be recommended.
Periodontal treatment is a team discipline requiring commitments from you and your clinician. We offer the very best in care and service, and want to work closely with you and referring dentists to ensure they get the maximum benefit from the treatment they receive from Amir.
